HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
Federal Science and Technical College, Uyo, was initially sited in Ikot Itie Udung in 1988 as a technical College, designated for girls only and as a pilot programme to provide facilities for vocational training. However, academic work actually commenced in 1991.
At inception, student’s population was 55. In June 1999 as a result of land encroachment problems and because the college was not making the expected progress in terms of students enrolment due to locational disadvantage. The federal ministry if education with the assistance of the state government, state ministry of education and support of the Aka Offot Community relocated the community relocated the college to the present site which used to be occupied by Aka Offot Community School.
The college was converted to and called Federal Science and Technical College with effect from the 2002/2003 academic session, with the objective of providing quality basic education, pre-professional science education and vocational (job specific) education for the production of artisans/operatives, skilled manpower as well as pre-professionals in science for the labor market and for further education in science and technology occupations. The student population has risen to 692; the staff strength is 231 which is made up of 67 teaching staff including the principal, 3 vice principals and 164 non-teaching staff. N.Y.S.C members are 5 in number..

As seen in the academic structure above, the college runs.
(i) A 3year junior college, which is in all respect introduced in 2002/2003 session the same as the existing junior secondary (JS) for primary school leaver for award of JSC by national examination council (NECO)
(ii) A parallel stream of a three year senior science college and and a 3year senior technical college for the successful products of the 3year Junior Secondary. Senior technical college shall offer artisan and craft level programmes for award of modular certificate, National Technical Certificate(NTC)and National Business Certificate(NBC) by NABTEB. They are all professional certificates.
Similarly, Senior Science College shall offer the Senior Secondary (SSS) science curriculum for SSCE or WAEC/NECO.
(iii) A one year Advanced Technical College for the holders of NTC and NBC for equivalent qualifications. Advanced Technical College shall offer Advanced Craft Programme leading to NABTEB Advanced Craft Certificate (ANTC and ANBC).
The one year advanced technical college shall also take charge of all non-formal programmes (part time, basic studies, sandwich, day-release or block release programs)offered by the college.
(iv) Practical Experience: at the end of two years, all NTC/NBC students must undergo, during long vacation, practical work experience in their relevant trades.
ADMISSION
Students are admitted into the college on the basis of possessing the minimum entry qualification student admitted but later found she does not possess the minimum entry qualification or had gained admission with forged certificate will be dismissed from the college. Any admitted student must be medically fit.
ENTRY QUAILFICATIONS
Candidates must not be less than 10years for junior school and 14years of age for senior school and should be scientifically or technically oriented, must have any of the following qualifications.
(a) Must pass NECO entrance examination, FSLC for JS1, and (NABTEB Entrance) for Senior Technical1.
(b) Junior secondary certificate with passes in at least four (4) subjects, including English language or
(c) Government class IV or s 75 certificate in relevant subject, or
(d) Teachers grade 11 certificates in relevant subjects.
